Ruth Bernstein reflects on her decision to transition out of the CEO role at EMC Research and focus more fully on the work she’s most passionate about — collaborating directly with clients. She shares her pride in EMC’s growth, her confidence in Molly O’Shaughnessy’s leadership, and her continued role in delivering high-impact, strategic research.
We’re entering an exciting new chapter at EMC Research.
After seven years as CEO, I’ve made the decision to step back from day-to-day leadership and focus more fully on the part of my role that has always been most meaningful to me: working directly with our clients.
At the same time, I’m thrilled to announce that Molly O’Shaughnessy will be stepping into the CEO role. Molly is a brilliant strategist and trusted advisor who has played a major role in shaping the firm’s direction — from deepening our data analytics capabilities to mentoring the next generation of researchers and strengthening the strategic foundation of our work. After working side by side with her for 18 years, I can say with full confidence that she brings the vision, focus, and steadiness to lead EMC into the future.
This transition reflects the strength of our team and the thoughtful planning we’ve done to ensure EMC continues to thrive. Serving as CEO through a time of great change and growth has been a true privilege. During the past seven years, we’ve become a majority women-owned business, deepened our expertise in many areas, and helped clients navigate everything from election cycles and policy reform to global uncertainty. I’m deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and just as energized by the work still to come.
This isn’t a goodbye. It’s a realignment — to the work I’ve always loved, with the people I continue to learn from every day. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey so far. I can’t wait to continue it with you.
